The Beautiful Kopachuck State Park

Kopachuck State Park is an easy fun outing on Gig Harbor. The park is located in the curve of Carr Inlet, about a half-hour from Tacoma Wa. Kipachuck offers warmed beaches and a creaky forest that will take you into a fairy tale. Around the corner is the McCormick Forest.

The park has several features that give a family fun day. Kopachuck State Park is a 280-acre park that gives a day-use marine that has 5600 feet of saltwater shoreline located on Henderson Bay. Cutts Island is a part of the park but you can only reach it by using a boat since it is about half a mile from shore. You can purchase a boat launch permit and a discover pass to where you can use a vehicle inside the state park. You can also purchase a day pass or an annual pass in the automated pay stations.

There are several activities that can be done so be ready for different activities. Kopachuck State Park offers 55 picnic tables in the open and two shelters that contain two or three picnic tables each. It is a first-come, first-serve basis so better get there early. When wanting to hike, there are two miles of trails that can be used. There are several water activities or features that you can choose to do. The water activities and features are boating, clamming, crabbing, diving, fishing, oyster harvesting, personal watercraft use, swimming, and water skiing. When doing any of the water activities, make sure to bring sunscreen, towels, life jackets and anything else that you might need. While visiting Kopachuck State Park, you can also do beach exploration, bird watching, fire circles, and wildlife viewing. When the tide goes out, it makes the sand warm and makes it perfect for wading, sandcastle building and learning about marine habitats. When coming to fish or harvesting wildlife, then you need to make sure that you have the licenses that are required. The main campsite has been closed permanently due to a tree disease that is in the area. However, there is one area that is fit for a couple of tents but needs to check with the park and pay the fees that would be required.
